Stone from the village of Mandra


The stone from the village of Mandra, situated in North East Greece and 5km from ancient Avdira, is a type of sandstone and it’s being used as a material on the houses, monuments and temples for the last 4000 years. The sandstone has warm colour tones like light brown, yellow, red, grey but also black and it’s those colours that give the stone the unique characteristics. Sandstone is a very robust material hence why is used in the construction industry as a raw material. At the same time, it is used as a decorative material on the walls and floors to compliment modern and traditional architecture.
